Yesterday I made the concious decision to get up from behind my desk and spend a few minutes walking around the Santa Monica Promenade area. It’s easy to take this area for granted when you’ve seen it every day for 2.5 years, so it’s nice to remember that I don’t always have surroundings this interesting. At the locations of my projects leading up to this, the most interesting thing near-by was probably a fast food restaurant. Here I can step outside my building and see tourists, scam artists, street performers, pan handlers, homeless people, crazy people, police, the ocean, and nearly anything else you can think of. People travel from around the world to see the place where I spend the vast majority of my time. I should consider myself fortunate.

The mid-day sun makes it hard to find good light. The sidewalk back lighting caught my eye here.

This man’s music was hauntingly beautiful. I could have sat and listened to him all day.

January 4th, 2011 – Image of the Day candidates…

With the holidays behind us things quickly fall back into routine and status quo. Since the beginning of my Image of the Day Project, I’ve been fortunate to have an element in my life that breaks up the monotony, and requires some thought and creativity. Some days are harder than others, especially when it’s 9 PM and I realize I haven’t clicked a shutter all day. While that can make the project difficult, sometimes it inspires me to make images that are significant to me.

The death of Badger Rose Bowl ambitions matches the death of the roses I bought for the weekend… I like how this rose is still beautiful in the center and withering on the outside…

Sometimes I feel like I need more command over my life and more options in my life…

Good friends in town… Mother Nature is simulating excellent fall football weather… Brats, beer, and cheese will be in full effect… All signs point to a great weekend…
